About Us
Help Feed the Children
The origin of Samaritan Kitchen of Wilkes reminds us that God can do great things through us.
In 1998, many families in Wilkes County were in desperate need, so a group of caring citizens organized Samaritan Kitchen of Wilkes to fight hunger and food insecurity. Volunteers prepared hot meals on Saturdays and delivered them to suffering families.
By 2009, it became obvious that people needed more than one meal a week, so with the use of a Wilkes Communications building, Samaritan Kitchen of Wilkes established a food pantry to provide shopping carts full of a week’s worth of groceries, monthly.
This same group of volunteers saw an additional need in the county.
Hungry children were receiving free breakfasts and lunches, but they had little to no food from Fridays until Monday morning. You can imagine how anxious they were to get Monday morning breakfast. Samaritan Kitchen fills a need in those children’s stomachs, and provides weekly food backpacks carefully packed with seven meals.
Very many volunteers, two full-time staff, and four part-time staff prepare 750 backpacks every week.Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and improve conditions. Your generous donation will fund our mission.
